U.S. Army Soldiers with Joint Task Force - Southern Border (JTF-SB) sprang into action after witnessing a vehicle accident, Feb.22, 2026, on Highway 83 in Rio Grande City, Texas. The Soldiers rescued an elderly driver from an overturned vehicle. Maj. Jeffrey R. O'Brien, 45, of Indianola, Iowa, died on March 1, 2026, in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, during an unmanned aircraft system attack. The Soldier was assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command, Des Moines, Iowa. The incident is under investigation.
