SAN DIEGO – A Coast Guard Air Station Ventura aircrew medically evacuated an ailing sportfishing vessel passenger 90 miles west of San Diego, Thursday night.

At 5:15 p.m., Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders received a medevac request from the vessel Pacific Voyager for a 74-year-old woman experiencing stroke-like symptoms.

The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew hoisted the passenger at 9:35 p.m., then transported her to Torrance Memorial Medical Center.

“Our crews remain ready to ensure the safety of life at sea,” said Cmdr. Zachary Vojtech, Air Station Ventura’s operations officer. “It’s their timely actions and unparalleled skill that help get people the assistance they need in times of urgency.”
