CHARLESTON, S.C. — A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew rescued six people from a grounded 18-foot recreational vessel near Turtle Island Wildlife Management Area in Jasper County, Wednesday.

The aircrew safely hoisted the six people and transported them to Hunter Army Airfield, and no injuries were reported.

The vessel remains grounded, and Sector Charleston watchstanders issued a safety marine information broadcast to warn mariners of the unlit vessel, which poses a potential navigational hazard.

A family member reported to Sector Charleston watchstanders that six people were stranded aboard the vessel along the eastern edge of the public lands.

The Coast Guard will coordinate with the vessel’s owner regarding recovery and salvage.
